laVerendrye parkway fort frances ontario 300Boating & Sailing:Rainy Lake provides over 2575 kilometres (1600 mi.) of shoreline to explore and Fort Frances is a major launching point for accessing the waterways in the region. Boat launches and customs in community.

Reeling It In:Fishing for smallmouth bass, pike, walleye, muskie and/or pickerel. Rainy Lake supports a smallmouth bass fishery. There are fishing lodges, fly-in outposts, wilderness resorts and fishing guides available.

Day Tripping: East of Fort Frances is the Noden Causeway. It is a sightseeing driving route exploring a series of bridges on Highway #11. The 5.6 kilometre (3.5 mile) section of highway hops from one small island to another while crossing over the Rainy River.

Tours & Guides: Book yourself a local tour and/or hire a guide. There are tours and guides who provide everything including the experience and knowledge of a successful wilderness adventure or sightseeing tour.

Self Guided Sightsee: Plan for a self guided walking tour exploring the village streets of Fort Frances visiting painted murals, heritage plaques, retail stores and boutique shops. Sightsee the waterfront walking the LaVerendrye Parkway.

Take in some History:Located throughout the town are heritage plaques and historic signage. Down the road, in the village of Rainy River, there is the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre and a local railroad museum.

Beachcombing:Visit some of the sandy beaches in the region located on the shores of Rainy Lake and on the banks of the Rainy River like the beach located in Pither's Point Park.

Take Photos:Seven Oaks, the "Hallett" logging boat and the the "Big Chair" are three of the most photographed images in Fort Frances. All three are located in the Pither's Point Park.

Pack a Picnic: Need some quality time outside why not pack a picnic and head out to one of the day use picnic sites in the area like in Pither's Point Park or along the waterfront on the LaVerendrye Parkway. In the Village of Rainy River visit the Hannam Park waterfront.

Get Winterized:During the winter months the trails, backcountry roads, frozen lakes and rivers in the region become activity destinations for ice fishing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.
